Lonnie Messbarger, Dept of Conservation Resource Forester, presented the City this year’s grant award to Interim City Administrator Bruce Lundy.  In addition to receiving the TRIM grant, Savannah is also a member of TREE CITY USA, and a past recipient of the Governor's Town Treescape Award.  The City is aware of the importance of trees to the community and is very thankful to the Missouri Dept of Conservation for their dedication in assisting communities like ours.

The TRIM grant stands for Tree Resource Improvement and Maintenance and is a competitive cost-share program provided and administered by the Missouri Dept of Conservation in cooperation with the Missouri Community Forestry Council and US Forest Service.  The purpose of the program is to provide financial assistance for the management, improvement and conservation of our community forests.  The program provides matching grant funds to promote community forestry benefits through the proper management and care of trees in Missouri communities.  The Missouri Dept of Conservation has awarded the City of Savannah this TRIM grant for several years.  Here in Savannah matching funds have been used to trim trees, remove hazardous trees, and plant new trees on the city's right of way and in City parks and has trained City employees and volunteers to improve forestry practices.
